Most hair supplements hide the dose. Here is why that matters more than you think.

After years of reading supplement labels for a living, the founder of Denra explains why the “proprietary blend” on the back of most hair products is the reason they disappoint, and what a formula looks like when it has nothing to hide.

“Most people losing hair do not have a hair problem. They have three problems running at once, and the bottle they bought is built for none of them.”

This is going to sound strange coming from someone who sells a hair supplement: most hair supplements are not built to work. They are built to look like they work. Turn the bottle around. Find the words “proprietary blend”. That line means the brand has decided you do not need to know how much of anything is inside.

I spent a long time reading those labels before I ever thought about making one. What I kept finding was the same trick: a headline ingredient everyone has heard of, usually biotin, at a dose large enough to put on the front, surrounded by a “blend” of a dozen things at amounts too small to matter. The label looks busy. The capsule does almost nothing.

What follows is what I learned about why thinning hair is rarely one problem, why a single-ingredient fix tends to stall, and what we did differently when we built Daily Density. If you have tried something and been disappointed, this will probably explain why.

What the supplement aisle gets wrong

Walk down any supplement aisle and you will see the same promise on twenty bottles: “hair, skin and nails”. Almost all of them lean on one idea, that thinning hair is a biotin shortage. For most adults it is not. Biotin deficiency is rare, and taking more of it when you are not short does not grow more hair. It does, at high doses, interfere with common blood tests.

The second problem is the blend. A proprietary blend lets a brand list fifteen ingredients and dose none of them properly. You cannot compare it to anything, because there is nothing to compare. That is the point.

The third problem is bigger than any bottle. Thinning is usually not one cause. It is three, and they feed each other.

The three drivers behind thinning hair

1. DHT sensitivity

A hormone tells a sensitive follicle to shrink a little with every cycle. The hair it produces gets finer and shorter until it stops.

2. Nutrient gaps

A follicle builds hair from zinc, cystine, vitamin D and the B vitamins. Training, stress, restrictive diets and age drain them faster than a normal diet replaces them.

3. Oxidative stress

Sun, stress and time wear down the follicle environment. Without antioxidant support the follicle recovers slower between cycles.

Cover one and leave the other two open, and the two you ignored keep undoing the work. That is why so many people say “I tried a DHT blocker” or “I tried biotin” and nothing moved. It is not that the ingredient did nothing. It is that it was one third of the job.

How Denra started

What we did instead: print every dose

We set one rule before the first batch: if an ingredient is in the capsule, the amount is on the label. No blend, no hiding, no biotin to pad the front. Eleven actives, each at the amount used in research, covering the three drivers at once.

Supplement Facts
Serving size 2 capsules · 30 servings per bottle

That is the whole trick. There is no trick. If a brand will not tell you the dose, it is usually because the dose would not impress you.

Why we put a 60-day guarantee on it

Hair grows in slow cycles. Shedding usually settles in the first one or two months; visible change takes three to six. We did not want anyone to have to guess whether it was working, so you get two months to decide. If it is not for you, you get your money back.
